Hendford Nursing Home

Hendford Nursing Home provides nursing, accommodation and personal care for up to 34 people with a range of care needs, including the frailty of old age. At inspection, 26 people were living at the home.

The service demonstrated several examples of good practice around infection prevention and control. Staff were experienced in infection control processes to support new admissions, and the provider had organised external personal protective equipment training with practical assessments. The home arranged clear testing areas for visitors and professionals, converting vacant rooms into private testing spaces. People received information on Covid-19, social distancing and infection control procedures.

The service provided safe face-to-face visiting through several methods, including a communal area converted with a safe barrier for visitors to speak with residents while maintaining external access away from others. Risk assessments had been completed for people living with dementia and others to keep them safe during isolation and social distancing. Furniture in communal areas was arranged to facilitate social distancing without causing distress, and meals were provided in a staggered manner to avoid overcrowding. Procedures were in place so that if a person tested positive for Covid-19, staff could implement zoning and isolation practices immediately.
