Ashton Lodge of Sunbury-on-Thames

Ashton Lodge accommodates up to 100 older people, some living with dementia, providing nursing and personal care. At the time of inspection, 76 people were resident at the service. The clinical lead demonstrated strong infection control practices by creating a video on proper PPE use, displayed continuously in the lobby as a training tool for staff and visitors. Staff consistently wore PPE correctly, and residents, while initially uncomfortable with the measure, accepted its necessity. The service maintained adequate supplies of PPE and cleaning products throughout, with additional housekeeping introduced to frequently clean high-touch areas including handrails, door handles and light switches. The service facilitated family visits through various arrangements, offering relatives a choice of visit types and previously using multiple digital platforms to enable residents to maintain contact with loved ones.
