Abbots Lawn

Abbots Lawn provides personal and nursing care for up to 37 older people, including those with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and dementia. At inspection, 32 people were living at the service in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, across two floors with assisted bathrooms on each level, a dining room and two lounge areas. People felt safe receiving care, and staff demonstrated good understanding of safeguarding. There were sufficient staff to meet people's needs, and recruitment procedures were safe.

Risks to people's safety and wellbeing were assessed, monitored and reduced effectively. Staff supported people to have maximum choice and control over their lives in the least restrictive way possible. However, the provider's quality assurance system did not always identify concerns or drive improvement in relation to medicine records and the application of the Mental Capacity Act. Records did not clearly demonstrate how Mental Capacity Act principles had been followed throughout the service.
