Whitwood Hall is a residential care home based in Wakefield, offering a familiar and homely setting for those who need a little extra support. The team there understands how important it is for residents to feel safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for, and that commitment runs through everything they do. For families beginning the search for the right care, Whitwood Hall aims to be a place where both residents and their loved ones can feel at ease.

Whitwood Hall accommodates up to 16 people across three separate houses (Saxon, Moore and Lodge), providing support for people with autism, learning disabilities, complex needs and behaviours which may challenge others. At the time of inspection, 11 people were living in the home, each house having separate adapted facilities.

The inspection found that people were not being adequately supported to access the local community in line with their assessed needs. Confusion existed about whether agency workers were permitted to support people away from the home, which limited people's choice and control over their daily routines. Staff were not consistently enabled to support people in the least restrictive way possible, and the service's policies and systems did not support this practice.

The provider has since taken action to address these concerns.
