The Laurels Care Home

This residential care home provides care and support to up to 52 people aged over 65, some living with dementia. At inspection, 30 people were living at the service in a purpose-built, single-storey building. While the service handled safeguarding concerns appropriately, records showed CQC notifications had not consistently been made in line with regulatory requirements. The home would benefit from strengthening audits and checks to ensure adherence to guidance on repositioning people to maintain skin health, and from clearer care records regarding when to seek medical input or administer medicine for constipation management. Improvements were also needed in medicines counting procedures, particularly when people were admitted to hospital. Overall, people received their medicines as prescribed. Feedback from relatives was mainly positive, and the manager was responsive to concerns raised, liaising directly with families to implement changes.
