The Hawthorns (Evesham)

The Hawthorns provides accommodation and nursing or personal care for up to 47 people, with the majority living with dementia and some with acquired brain injury. At inspection, 46 people were using the service, with those living with dementia distributed across four separate areas on the ground and first floors, each with their own lounges and kitchens, while six people with acquired brain injury occupied the top floor.

The service is extremely well led and caring, with people and their relatives placed at the heart of operations and involved at every level. Staffing levels are high and staff have received extensive training. Risk assessments support people to take positive risks while remaining safe. Medicines are administered safely, and the home is piloting an electronic Medicine Administration System. The registered manager has worked to reduce anti-psychotic medications by using techniques to identify triggers and implement distraction strategies instead.
