The Cyder Barn

The Cyder Barn, in Somerset, provides care for older people living with dementia and physical disabilities, supporting 28 people at the time of assessment. The CQC rated the home as Requires Improvement overall. Inspectors found fire safety concerns that placed people at risk, gaps in staff training records, inconsistent handling of consent for people lacking capacity, and quality checks that had not been effective in driving improvement.

Despite this, people spoke warmly of the care they received, describing staff as kind and supportive, and praised the food and cleanliness of the home. Caring, effective and responsive care were all rated Good, and people felt safe and well looked after, though safety and leadership still require improvement.
