Southdowns Nursing Home

Southdowns Nursing Home provides accommodation, personal and nursing care for up to 50 people with physical frailty, sensory impairment, dementia, and mental health problems. The home accommodates 46 residents across two floors, each with their own bedroom, with lift access throughout.

The inspection identified significant concerns with governance and safety systems. Audit processes failed to identify risks to people's safety, and care records lacked important details about incidents, bruising, and how staff should respond to emotional distress. Communication between staff about changes to people's care was inconsistent, meaning that changes to residents' health and wellbeing were not always planned for and monitored effectively. Although staffing numbers were appropriate to residents' dependency needs, the deployment of staff had the potential to impact safety.
