Shaftesbury Anvil House

This home accommodates up to seven people with learning disabilities and physical disabilities in a large detached property, providing personal care but not nursing care. At inspection, all seven places were occupied. Staff demonstrated good knowledge of the people they supported and understood safeguarding procedures, responding appropriately to potential concerns. Care staff possessed the necessary skills to deliver person-centred support and encouraged residents to maintain independence within the home while making their own choices about daily life.

Medication was administered as prescribed and staffing levels were sufficient to meet residents' needs and keep them safe. Staff were described as kind and caring, supporting people in the least restrictive way possible and promoting maximum choice and control over their lives. The service's approach aligned with best practice guidance centred on choice, independence and inclusion, enabling people with learning disabilities and autism to live as ordinary a life as any citizen.
