Middleton Fells

Middleton Fells, in Westmorland and Furness, is a care home providing personal care and accommodation for up to six people with learning disabilities and/or autism. The CQC rated it Requires Improvement overall, finding breaches relating to dignity and respect and to good governance. Inspectors found people's liberty had been restricted, including regular use of seclusion, some care records were inaccurate, parts of the home were not clean, and some safeguarding concerns had not been reported to the local authority.

Staff knew people well and treated them with kindness, and relatives spoke positively about care and staff knowledge. People's health, nutritional and communication needs were well met, and activities and family contact were supported. Management were open about shortfalls and had begun addressing some concerns, but oversight had not caught issues inspectors identified.
