Herons Park Nursing Home

Herons Park Nursing Home provides personal and nursing care to up to 82 people across three floors, supporting younger adults, older people, those living with dementia, and people with physical disabilities. At inspection, 50 people were using the service. However, the home's governance and audit systems failed to identify significant shortfalls in medicines management and other safety concerns. Staff administering topical creams had no competency checks, and the systems in place did not consistently ensure people received their prescribed medicines safely.

Documentation throughout the service needed improvement to ensure staff had up-to-date information for providing safe and consistent care. Risk management systems were ineffective, particularly regarding incident and accident reporting. Wound care plans lacked necessary detail to guide staff appropriately. The providers' governance structures had not identified these shortfalls, raising concerns about the home's ability to monitor and improve its own quality and safety.
