Castlewellan House

Castlewellan House provides personal care to up to 18 older people, with 17 residents at the time of inspection. The home spans two floors with a lift for those with mobility needs, and bedrooms feature ensuites. A newly refurbished garden at the back offers a quiet social space for residents.

Inspectors identified concerns with medicines management, including how controlled medicines were monitored and records maintained. Care plans and risk assessments were being transferred to a new system, and while care plans were person-centred, guidance for staff could be improved. A notable gap existed in the manager and provider's knowledge regarding reporting incidents to the local authority. There was a lack of activities taking place, with inspectors observing that at times people were disengaged.
