Belvidere Residential Care Home

Belvidere is a residential care home providing personal care and accommodation for up to 28 people, some of whom live with dementia. At the time of inspection, the service was supporting 23 people in one adapted building. Improvements were needed in several areas. Medicine management systems required strengthening to ensure people received prescribed medications as intended with accurate records. Risk management processes were not consistently effective, leaving people potentially exposed to harm. Safeguarding procedures needed enhancement to cover all aspects of potential abuse, and deprivation of liberty applications and authorisations required better systems and management.

Staff generally supported people to have choice and control in their lives and used least restrictive approaches, though policies did not always reflect this practice. Timely action was not always taken to address people's healthcare needs. While staff received training, more in-depth training would benefit those supporting people with complex needs. The physical environment lacked dementia-friendly features and adequate signage to help people orientate themselves, affecting the homely atmosphere of the service.
