Alston House

Alston House provides personal care and accommodation to older people, those with mental health needs, dementia, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments and younger adults. At inspection, the service was supporting 17 people. Staff had received training to meet people's needs effectively, and people felt safe with them. Staff understood how to protect people from harm and recognise signs of abuse. Care plans and risk assessments guided staff in meeting individual needs, and people received medicines as prescribed with appropriate infection control measures in place. Staffing levels were adequate.

However, the provider had not fully developed effective systems to monitor the quality of care. Safe fire systems were not systematically in place, and the recruitment process, while including vetting of suitable staff, was not sufficiently robust.
