Acorn House - Laindon

Acorn House - Laindon provides personal care and accommodation for up to six people with learning disabilities and autism. At inspection, five people were living at the service. Staff had received training on working safely during the pandemic and in the correct use of personal protective equipment. The manager was following government guidance on whole home testing, including rapid testing and weekly testing for staff and monthly testing for residents. Clear guidance and signage throughout the service helped prompt staff and people to minimise infection risks.

Infection prevention control practices were well established, with good supplies of PPE and hand sanitisers available. Cleaning audits were completed by staff and overseen by the deputy manager, with information cascaded regularly to all staff. Despite the service's small layout making social distancing challenging, some communal areas had been adapted to encourage it. Staff who knew residents well continued to prioritise their wellbeing, engaging them in individual activities of their own choice.
