Abbot Care Home

This care home provides personal and nursing care to up to 117 people, including those living with dementia, across three floors. At the time of inspection in August 2023, there were 102 people using the service. Inspectors found poor infection prevention and control practices, with cleanliness issues identified in the premises and equipment. The provider took immediate action, and a follow-up visit in September 2023 confirmed improvements had been made to ensure the environment was clean and uncluttered.

While the provider responded quickly to address infection control concerns, governance systems were not consistently effective at identifying problems. The provider's own audit had not detected the cleanliness issues found during inspection. Medication was generally administered on time by qualified nursing staff, though some liquid medicines were found to be past their expiry date after opening, which the provider's medication audit had also missed. Risk management required improvement, as identified risks did not always have controls that were effectively followed, and some inconsistencies existed within people's care plans.
