Whitley Farm

Heathcotes (Whitley) is a small residential care home for people with autism spectrum disorder or learning disabilities, accommodating nine residents at the time of inspection. The home maintained effective infection control measures, including enhanced cleaning of high-touch areas and regular audits of the environment. Visitors were not restricted, with appropriate screening and PPE provided, and alternative meeting spaces arranged outdoors and in isolated areas to support family relationships. Virtual visits were promoted throughout the pandemic, and the registered manager ensured staff and residents received appropriate COVID-19 testing while maintaining up-to-date infection prevention and control policies.

The home had developed risk assessments for people and staff in higher-risk groups, implementing actions to reduce transmission risks. Although social distancing and isolation were not always possible due to residents' individual needs, appropriate measures were taken to manage risk effectively. The registered manager demonstrated knowledge of safe admission procedures and sought guidance from relevant authorities when needed.
