The Poplars Nursing Home

The Poplars Nursing Home provides personal care to up to 58 people, including older and younger adults. At inspection, 47 people were using the service. Staff demonstrated good knowledge of safeguarding procedures and knew how to recognise and report abuse. Systems were in place to record and investigate incidents and accidents, with lessons learnt to prevent recurrence. Safe recruitment practices were followed.

However, care records required improvements to ensure all information and guidelines were readily accessible to staff when delivering care. The provider was not consistently working in line with the Mental Capacity Act principles, which put people at risk of being deprived of their liberty without lawful authority. The physical environment also needed improvements, with some bedrooms requiring work to create a more homely appearance. The provider had already identified these issues and refurbishment work was underway.
