The Moreton Centre

The following is CQC's published account of its assessment, published 30 April 2025. References to “we” mean CQC. It describes findings at that time.

Date of Assessment: 24 March 2025 to 7 April 2025.

The Moreton Centre provides nursing and personal care for up to 64 people who live with dementia and people who live with a mental health diagnosis. The home is purpose-built over two floors and divided into four separate units. Ash unit provided accommodation for both male and female people living with dementia. Maple unit accommodated younger people with a mental health diagnosis. A further two units, Willow and Oak provided single sex accommodation for those with a mental health diagnosis and displaying different emotions. There were 62 people living at the home at the time of the inspection with a range of complex mental health and health care needs.

We undertook this responsive assessment to check on specific concerns we had received about the environment, peoples' safety and well-being, the culture and the management of risk in the service.

During this assessment, we found that systems and processes to support people’s safety were not always followed. Information gathered from incidents, accidents and feedback was not effectively used to make changes and improvements to the quality of care. The environment and essential equipment was not well maintained. We identified improvements were also required to the governance, management and sustainability of the service and there was a negative culture at the home between staff and management.

The provider was receptive to our feedback and had started implementing improvements quickly to mitigate risk to people.We received an action plan from the registered manager with time frames during the assessment process.

The service rating has changed from Good to Requires Improvement.

The provider had liaised with external health professionals to provide joined up care and treatment for people. Staff and management knew people well, and this had ensured risk was minimised. There were sufficient staff deployed. Staff received an induction, training and support that enabled them to manage people’s health and social care safely. Staff were seen to be kind and respectful to people.
