The Laurels

The Laurels is a residential home providing care for up to seven autistic people and people with a learning disability. The CQC found the service requires improvement, with breaches relating to safe care and treatment, consent procedures, and governance. Risk assessments and records were inconsistent, oversight of skin injuries and specialist diets lacked robustness, and mental capacity assessments were not always completed properly.

Inspectors found staff kind, caring and knowledgeable about people's needs, and people were supported to take part in activities and access healthcare. Relatives generally felt their loved ones were safe and well cared for, though some wanted better communication about medical appointments. Management had begun taking action to address the concerns identified.
