Harleston House

This residential care home accommodates up to 39 older people requiring support with personal care. During the inspection, staff demonstrated creative approaches to maintaining residents' connections with family, using phone calls, tablets and large TV screens to facilitate virtual visits, with particular attention given to supporting people with dementia. The home maintained a full activities programme, including themed events such as a 'Butlins' day where staff dressed as red coats, the dining room was transformed into a tent, and residents participated in entertainment like a knobbly knees competition. Staff implemented comprehensive COVID-19 safety measures, including wearing PPE at all times, maintaining social distancing where possible, requesting test results for hospital discharges, and supporting 14-day isolation periods for new admissions. All staff were willing to undertake PCR testing to protect residents, and the home had recorded no positive COVID cases at the time of inspection.
