The Laurels Care Centre

The Laurels Nursing Home cares for up to 52 older people with nursing needs, including those with poor mobility, strokes, Parkinson's disease, and diabetes, as well as people receiving end of life care. The home also provides emergency respite care for people who have live-in carers at home. During inspection, 36 people were residing in the home, which is arranged over two floors with communal areas on each level. Staffing arrangements were safe and ensured people's needs were met promptly. Staff had received training and regular updates on safeguarding and understood how to respond to any suspicion or allegation of abuse or discrimination.

The home was establishing and embedding quality systems into daily practice to support quality care and record keeping. Some areas for improvement in record keeping were identified, though the manager had already recognised these issues and developed an action plan to address them, which mitigated risk.
