The Gables

The Gables is a residential care home in Birmingham providing support to 23 older people, some living with dementia. The CQC rated it Requires Improvement overall, finding four breaches of regulations relating to safe care, the premises, dignity and respect, and governance. Inspectors found the provider had failed to complete effective checks on the environment and infection control, and had not always assessed known risks to people.

People generally felt safe and received their medicines as needed, and staff were described as kind, though some residents said care was rushed or heavy handed at times. Dignity and involvement in decisions were not consistently promoted, and quality monitoring systems were not effective at driving improvement, though staff felt well supported by managers.
