St James's Lodge

St James's Lodge is a nursing home in Plymouth providing care for adults with dementia, sensory impairments, physical disabilities and other needs, registered for up to 38 people. The CQC rated the home as Requires Improvement, finding breaches relating to dignity, consent, safe care and governance. Inspectors found a bath rota limiting choice, shared prescribed underwear, missing mental capacity assessments, gaps in repositioning records and incomplete end-of-life care plans, alongside weak audit and oversight systems.

People told inspectors they felt safe and described staff as kind, and most relatives were positive about communication and care. However, some people experienced long periods without engagement and task-focused support, and the provider has been asked to submit an action plan to address the shortfalls identified.
