Southlands Nursing Home

Southlands Nursing Home provides personal and nursing care to 26 people aged 65 and over, with capacity for up to 30 residents. People spoken with felt safe and well cared for, expressing no concerns about living at the home. Staff demonstrated good knowledge of the individuals they supported and understood associated risks and how to minimise them.

However, detailed care plans and risk assessments were not consistently in place to guide staff, particularly those who are new or agency workers unfamiliar with residents. While some feedback indicated that dignity was respected, other observations suggested this could be improved. Care plans sometimes lacked sufficient detail about people's wants, wishes and preferences to properly guide staff support. A clear management structure exists with senior management actively supporting the registered manager, and they acknowledged the need for improvements to the service's culture, developing an action plan to address this.
