Island Sands Residential Care Home

Little Oyster Residential Home provides accommodation and personal care for up to 64 people, though only 15 were using the service at inspection. The home supports people with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and mental health conditions across a main building, annex, bungalows and flats on the same site.

The service had robust systems for safely administering and recording medicines, with a strong auditing process to identify improvements and minimise risks to people's safety. However, inspectors identified gaps in recording why PRN (as and when required) medicines were being used or their effectiveness, and found that national guidance wasn't always followed when disposing of certain medicines. Staff supported people to participate in activities of their choice.
