Cranhill Nursing Home

The following is CQC's published account of its assessment, published 2 July 2026. References to “we” mean CQC. It describes findings at that time.

Date of inspection 21 May 2026 to 19 June 2026.

Cranhill Nursing Home is a care home which provides nursing care for older adults age 65 years and over. The home is registered to accommodate up to 31 people in the home. At the time of this assessment, 22 people were living there. This was a responsive, aged- related assessment carried out to follow up on concerns raised about the service and to review the quality of care provided since the last CQC inspection in 2018.

Leaders were visible and approachable and actively involved in the day-to day running of the service. Staff spoke positively about working in the home described feeling well supported by the registered manager. There were sufficient numbers of staff on duty to meet people’s needs, and staff demonstrated a good understanding of the people they cared for. Staff were knowledgeable about safeguarding and were confident in recognising and reporting concerns.

People’s care and support needs were met appropriately. Care plans and risk assessments were regularly reviewed and reflected people’s current needs. Referrals to health care professionals were made in a timely manner when required. Accidents and incidents were managed appropriately, and lessons learned were shared with staff to support improvement.

People were treated with kindness, dignity and respect. Staff supported people to maintain their independence and participate in activities that were important to them, including attending appointments, joining community lunch clubs and engaging in gardening activities.

The home was generally clean and free from malodour. Some areas of the home appeared cluttered with equipment and some of the carpets appeared threadbare. The registered manager confirmed there were plans to replace these.

People generally received their medicines safely; however, governance arrangements required strengthening to ensure medicines- related risks were managed consistently and that records for ‘as required’ medicines were completed accurately.

Feedback from health and social care professionals was positive, with professionals commenting favourably on both the quality of care provided and the leadership and management of the service.
