Could the NHS fund The Orangery's fees?
NHS Continuing Healthcare could cover 100% of care costs with no means test.
The Orangery is a nursing home caring for up to 40 people aged 65 and over. It provides general nursing care on the ground floor and specialised dementia care on the first floor, with all 40 beds currently occupied. The home has implemented well-planned visiting arrangements that prioritise infection control, providing visitors with clear guidance and personal protective equipment beforehand. Visits primarily take place in garden areas, with plans underway to develop dedicated indoor visitor spaces for adverse weather.
New admissions are accommodated in rooms with ensuite facilities and direct garden access, allowing people to isolate safely while maintaining independence and dignity. Staff have shown initiative in supporting residents' wellbeing, including encouraging a resident musician to provide live entertainment when external performers cannot visit the service.
