Chalkwell Grange

Chalkwell Grange is a residential care home in Southend-on-Sea providing accommodation and personal care for up to 48 older people, including those living with dementia. The CQC rated the home Inadequate, a decline from its previous Requires Improvement rating, and it has been placed in special measures. Inspectors found unsafe medicines management, poorly stored hazardous substances, and ineffective quality checks that failed to catch these problems.

Staff lacked regular supervision and did not feel confident raising concerns.

Families said staff were kind, and people enjoyed activities and meals, but many raised concerns about staff shortages, slow responses to changing needs, and weak communication from management. There was no registered manager in post, though a new manager had recently been appointed.
