Burleys Wood

Burleys Wood, in West Sussex, is a care home providing support to people living with dementia and those with nursing needs. The CQC rated the service as requiring improvement overall, prompted partly by whistleblowing from staff about unsafe staffing levels, being overworked and unsupported, and concerns about intimidation and bullying by management. Many staff felt their concerns were dismissed and feared speaking up.

Despite this, inspectors found staff were kind, knew people well and provided personalised care, with good management of health conditions. People using the service and their relatives spoke positively about the care received, and visiting professionals gave positive feedback. The provider has outlined actions to address staff concerns and improve oversight.
