Brenalwood Care Home, in Essex, provides accommodation and personal care for up to 38 older people, including those living with dementia, physical disabilities or sensory impairments. Following years of poor ratings and repeated breaches around staffing, safety and governance, the CQC's latest assessment found significant improvement, with the home no longer in breach of regulations and out of special measures.

Inspectors found stronger management oversight, safer staffing levels and better recruitment and training. Some areas, including care records, risk assessments and medicines documentation, still needed further work to embed fully. People and relatives described staff as kind and respectful, felt safe, and praised improved activities and communication.
