About Blossom Lodge

Blossom Lodge in Barnsley is a care home providing nursing and residential care across four units, supporting older people, including some living with dementia or a physical disability. The CQC rated the service inadequate and placed it in special measures. Inspectors found unsafe staffing levels, poor medicines management, unmitigated environmental risks and weak infection control, alongside breaches relating to person-centred care, safety, premises, staffing and governance.

Care plans were unclear and inconsistent, and Mental Capacity Act principles were not always followed. Staff were often described as kind, but task-focused care meant limited time for meaningful interaction, and some people faced delays getting support. Leadership and governance failed to identify or address these risks, and there was no clear plan for improvement.
