Bishop's Cleeve Care Home

Bishop's Cleeve Care Home is a purpose-built residential care home providing personal care to up to 64 older people across 4 separate units, one of which specialises in dementia support. At inspection, 33 people were using the service. Residents and relatives reported feeling safe and were positive about the care received overall.

However, inspectors identified significant concerns about safety management. Robust risk mitigation plans were not consistently in place for all residents, and staff lacked clear guidance on protecting people from identified risks. Not all staff understood how to support residents to manage their own risks, and environmental protections were inconsistent. Medicines management was unsafe in some instances, and the service did not always support people to have maximum choice and control over their lives in the least restrictive way possible.

Care and support was not consistently delivered in a person-centred way. Systems to monitor and improve the quality and safety of the service required strengthening, and records needed better maintenance to support effective service management.
