Avondale Lodge Care Home

This service provides care and support for up to 14 people living with mental health conditions, learning difficulties, or dementia. Inspectors found strong infection prevention and control practices in place. Staff wore appropriate personal protective equipment when delivering personal care, and designated areas were available for putting on and removing PPE. The service followed national guidelines for testing people before admission and conducted regular whole home testing of staff and residents. People were assessed daily for symptoms including high temperature, cough, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, confusion, diarrhoea, and vomiting.

The home maintained uncluttered areas to enable effective cleaning and had risk assessed staff in high-risk groups with appropriate adjustments made. Staff received training on infection control measures and could immediately implement full precautions for anyone showing symptoms. Residents were confident in raising concerns about infection prevention practices without fear of discrimination.
