Wykewood

Wykewood provides personal care and nursing to up to 40 people with physical, neurological, and mental health needs, including brain injury and dementia. At inspection, 14 people were using the service across three occupied units. The home has systems to keep people safe from abuse and manages medicines safely, though inspectors recommended reviewing the process for administering medication covertly with prescribing professionals. Risk assessments link with care plans, but not all risks were being effectively monitored. Inspectors found people with challenging behaviours were not always on ABC charts despite potential risks to themselves or others.

Staffing levels met dependency requirements, but inspectors recommended reviewing staff deployment to ensure sufficient capacity for required 15-minute observations. The service demonstrates a culture of learning from mistakes. Staff support people to have maximum choice and control over their lives in the least restrictive way possible, with policies and systems supporting this person-centred approach.
