Whitstable Nursing Home

This residential care home accommodates up to 34 people requiring nursing care, many living with dementia. At inspection, 22 residents were living there. While residents reported feeling safe, the home had not maintained accurate care records and had not always provided detailed guidance to staff for managing identified health and welfare risks. This created potential gaps in ensuring people received necessary care to remain safe and well.

The service did not consistently support residents to have maximum choice and control over their lives, nor did staff always use the least restrictive approaches in line with residents' best interests. Decision-making processes around potentially restrictive practices were not always properly documented. While the home conducted checks and audits to assess quality, these had not been effective in identifying the shortfalls revealed during inspection. Where issues had been previously identified, action had been taken to address them.
