The Star Nursing Home

The Star Nursing Home provides residential and nursing care for older people, including those living with dementia, mental health conditions and physical disabilities. The CQC rated the service Requires Improvement overall, following an assessment prompted by safeguarding concerns and complaints. Inspectors found breaches relating to safe care and treatment, staffing, person-centred care and governance, including medicines not always given as prescribed and care plans lacking detail on preferences and end-of-life wishes.

People had limited access to meaningful activities, and staffing levels were not effectively assessed. However, staff knew how to raise safeguarding concerns, and leadership responded promptly when issues arose. Feedback from people and relatives was mixed, with some praising kind, attentive care and others describing boredom and limited engagement from staff.
