The Lighthouse Selsey

The Lighthouse Selsey is a residential care home for up to 9 people with learning disabilities and autistic people, some of whom have additional mental health needs or dementia. Seven people were living at the service during inspection. The home also provides personal care to people in their own homes, though none were receiving this service at the time of inspection.

The service provides a calm environment using an active support approach to increase people's participation in daily life and help them develop skills. Residents undertake household tasks and were proud to show their self-created daily task rotas. Staff consistently support people's individual communication needs, enabling residents to understand information and make choices. The home was developing additional staff training with residents teaching staff Makaton sign language. Staff support people to have maximum choice and control over their lives in the least restrictive way possible, with policies and systems in place to support this practice.
