The Cottage Residential Care Home

The Cottage Residential Care Home provides accommodation and personal care for up to 10 people with a learning disability or autistic spectrum disorder, some of whom also have mental health needs, a physical disability or dementia. Six people were living there when inspectors found the service inadequate overall and placed it in special measures, with enforcement action taken against the provider.

The CQC found significant failings in safety and leadership: people were not always protected from abuse, risks and medicines were poorly managed, the environment was unsafe, and out-of-date food was found. Management oversight was weak. Staff knew people well and bedrooms were personalised, but safety concerns overshadowed these positives.
