The Bernard Sunley Nursing and Dementia Care Home

This nursing and dementia care home in Woking provides residential and nursing care to up to 62 people with a range of health and physical support needs, including those living with dementia. At the time of inspection, 36 people resided at the home.

The home took positive steps to enable safe visiting. Staff rearranged rooms to create a visitor testing and screening area with direct entry from the car park, and another room was equipped with safety screens and intercom for non-contact visits. Management also facilitated safe garden visits in good weather with clear signage and guidance for visitors.

The provider made environmental improvements to support infection prevention and control and people's wellbeing. Staff created additional seating and sensory areas in the garden for outdoor activities and socialising. Specialist disinfection equipment was purchased and used regularly by allocated staff. The home increased availability of hand disinfecting gel, installed a mobile handwashing sink for garden visits, and ensured adequate personal protective equipment was available throughout the building.
