The Ashton Care Home

This residential and nursing care home supports up to 77 older people, including those living with dementia. At inspection, 41 people were using the service, which operates across three floors with adapted facilities. The home had effective systems for monitoring and improving care quality, with managers described as accessible and supportive to staff, residents and relatives. There were robust systems for engaging people and stakeholders in service planning.

However, improvements were required in hygiene standards and infection prevention and control practices. Minor issues were identified in how staff managed medicines prescribed on an as-needed basis. Staff did not always support people to have maximum choice and control over their lives in the least restrictive way possible, and the home's policies and systems did not fully support this practice.
