Syston Lodge Residential Home

Syston Lodge is a residential care home providing personal care and accommodation for up to 25 people. At inspection, the service supported 22 residents. Staff are longstanding and know people well, which helps reduce risks of immediate harm. People feel safe living there and staff understand their safeguarding responsibilities. Medicines are managed safely and infection control practices are in place. Staffing levels are sufficient to meet people's needs.

Quality monitoring and oversight were not fully effective in identifying shortfalls in care planning, care records and risk assessments. Care records did not consistently provide the information and guidance staff needed to ensure people received consistent, effective support, and did not fully demonstrate how people's needs were being met. The service must improve recording practices across these areas.

People are supported to have maximum choice and control over their lives in the least restrictive way possible. Staff have clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities and feel supported by the registered manager. People, relatives and staff are able to share views and feedback is used to make improvements.
