St. Michaels Lodge

St Michael's Lodge provides personal and nursing care to nine people with mental health needs aged 25 and over in one adapted building. People felt safe at the home and reported that staff treated them well. Staff understood their responsibilities for reporting abuse, and people's risks were assessed with guidance provided to reduce these. The service had systems in place to safely manage medicines, and staff received appropriate training to carry out their roles effectively. However, improvements were needed in management practices. Staffing levels were not always adequate to meet people's needs, and the registered manager had failed to notify CQC of two notifiable serious incidents. The fire risk assessment did not account for people smoking inside the house, and while lessons were learnt when things went wrong, follow-up information was not always documented.
