St Matthews Unit

St Matthews Unit provides personal and nursing care to 46 people with dementia and mental health conditions, with capacity for up to 52 residents. The service supports some people with learning disabilities and autism. Risk management associated with people's care has improved, and residents have strategies in place to help them when distressed. However, wound and pain management requires improvement, and concerns were identified with medicine management, particularly the lack of written instructions for staff about when required medicines should be given. Overall, people are supported to have maximum choice and control over their lives, with staff using the least restrictive approaches in residents' best interests. Sufficient staff are available to meet individual needs and help people pursue hobbies and activities in the local community.
