South Africa Lodge provides personal and nursing care for up to 99 people with complex neurological needs across six separate units. People and relatives spoke positively about the care and staff. Care plans and risk assessments were detailed and consistently implemented, with health needs and wellbeing monitored in line with these assessments. Environmental risks were identified and addressed appropriately.

Medicine administration followed prescriptions, though some medicine care plans and "as and when required" records initially lacked sufficient detail. The management team took immediate action to rectify this. Infection prevention and control processes were robust, with up to date policies in place and staff adhering to latest government guidance. Recruitment practices were effective with sufficient staffing levels to meet people's needs safely. People were protected from avoidable harm and abuse.
