Shamu

Shamu is a residential care home providing personal care to people with a learning disability. Five people were living in the home at the time of inspection. The service demonstrated strong infection prevention and control practices, including visitor screening for COVID-19 symptoms, an appointed infection prevention control lead, and frequent cleaning of touch points throughout the day. An easy-read COVID-19 board was designed to help residents understand the pandemic, and people were supported to shield in their rooms if deemed at risk. The registered manager maintained infection prevention control audits and cleaning schedules to ensure safety standards were met. Where residents were unable to consent to COVID-19 tests or vaccinations, the provider ensured appropriate consultation and evidence-gathering before making decisions on their behalf. The service also prioritised residents' emotional wellbeing by facilitating outdoor park visits when safe to do so.
