Ritson Lodge

Ritson Lodge provides personal and nursing care to 34 older people, with capacity for up to 60 residents. A new management team introduced an improvement and development plan, resulting in significant enhancements across the service. Care planning and risk assessment are clear and provide staff with sufficient information to support residents effectively.

However, improvements are still needed in medicines management. While medicines are stored safely and administered in a timely manner that respects people's preferences, there were five occasions when one person received out of date medicine. Some equipment used to administer medicines is unsuitable for purpose. Additionally, one person's end of life care plan was not current and lacked guidance for staff on selecting appropriate pain relief doses if needed. The service has received recommendations to address these areas.
