The Elms Residential Care Home

The Elms provides personal and nursing care to up to 20 people aged 65 and over, including those living with dementia. At inspection, 18 residents were living in the home. People and relatives spoke positively about their care, describing staff as kind, attentive and friendly. Residents felt listened to, valued as individuals and respected, and were supported to be involved in decisions about their care and to maintain their independence where possible.

The service had made positive changes since the last inspection, though improvements were still needed in some areas. Quality management systems were not comprehensive enough to effectively monitor all aspects of the service, including the regular review of incidents, accidents and near misses. Infection control checks and care plan audits had also failed to identify issues that were uncovered during the inspection, and there were gaps in ensuring compliance with training policies. Staff supported residents with maximum choice and control, operating in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests.
