Norton Lodge

Norton Lodge provides personal care to up to 32 older people, some of whom live with dementia, across two floors with shared living spaces. At inspection, 27 people were using the service. Staff knew residents well and people spoke positively about the care they received. Appropriate checks were in place to ensure staff suitability.

However, inspectors found several areas requiring improvement. Medicine management needed strengthening to ensure people received their medicines safely. Risk assessments and care plans did not consistently reflect current care needs, and equipment used to reduce physical health risks was not always routinely serviced or in full working order. Staff did not consistently support people to have maximum choice and control of their lives in the least restrictive way possible. Routine audits and checks had failed to identify these issues promptly or drive sufficient action. A recent change in management had occurred, with new deputy and operations managers planned to support the manager in driving improvements.
