Mandela House Therapeutic Unit

Mandela House Therapeutic Unit provides accommodation and personal care to six people with learning disabilities or autistic spectrum disorder. At the time of inspection, only one person was living at the home. Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities and protected people from the risk of abuse. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives, with staff supporting them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests.

Environmental risks had not always been identified, assessed or managed effectively. Whilst behavioural risks had been identified, care records contained limited information to instruct staff what action to take should these risks arise. Consent was not always recorded where potential restrictions were in place. The home was clean with good infection control procedures in place, protecting people from the risk of infection.
